Commercial painting is rarely just about paint.
In high-end environments, it’s about timing, precision, and trust — especially when everything must be ready before the next event begins.
This was exactly the case at Thaddaeus Ropac, one of Europe’s leading contemporary art galleries, located in the heart of Mayfair.
Working Between Exhibitions – When Time Matters Most
The project took place in a Grade I listed building dating back to 1776, where both the architectural value and the gallery’s reputation required a highly careful approach.
The project began with a detailed survey, during which we assessed the condition of the surfaces and advised the client on the best course of action.
The condition of the walls required extensive repairs — including cracks, damage, and signs of heavy use that needed to be addressed before finishing works could begin.
The client required a full preparation and refresh of key areas between exhibitions, leaving no flexibility in timing.
The scope included:
- two floors of corridors
- a staircase connecting both levels
- three gallery rooms
- walls and detailed woodwork
All of this had to be completed within a tight eight-day window before the next exhibition installation.
A Tight Schedule and High Expectations
With such a limited timeframe, the challenge was clear.
Large gallery rooms combined with two floors of corridors and a staircase meant a significant area to complete within a short period.
Additionally, the condition of the walls required intensive preparation work, adding further pressure to the schedule.
Despite the time pressure, there was no room for shortcuts — every element had to meet a high standard.
Organisation, Teamwork and Execution
Delivering a project of this scale required careful planning and coordination.
A team of 7–8 decorators, led by a project manager, worked simultaneously across multiple areas.
A key part of the project was protection and isolation of working areas.
Works were carried out close to spaces containing artwork, so it was essential to separate work zones and fully protect all surfaces.
Appropriate protection methods ensured safe execution without risk to artworks or interiors.
Clear communication and structured workflow ensured smooth delivery throughout the project.
Gallery Standard
The nature of the space required a very high standard of finish.
All areas had to be ready for immediate use before the next exhibition.
Walls and woodwork were refreshed to achieve a clean and consistent finish throughout.
Delivered On Time
The project was completed within the eight-day timeframe and to the required standard.
The gallery was ready for the next exhibition without delays.
The client was very satisfied with both the result and the process.
Client feedback:
“Everything looks bright and shiny. Thaddaeus was particularly satisfied with your work — thank you again to the whole team.”
Conclusion
It is about:
- reliability under pressure
- coordination and planning
- attention to detail
- and delivering exactly as promised
Summary
We would like to thank the client for their trust and kind words following the project.
We are pleased that the client was fully satisfied and look forward to future collaboration.
