Beautiful on the Inside… And Now on the Outside, Too
As specialists in commercial exterior painting and decorating in London, Ignas London is delighted to have many long-term, ongoing working relationships with our customers. They return to us every time. Not least, galleries.
First impressions are critical.
A clean, well-maintained outside appearance manages people’s expectations. And, in our opinion, not all providers of painting and decorating in a commercial environment are the same.

Introducing the David Zwirner Gallery
Situated in a refined former Georgian townhouse in the heart of London’s Mayfair, the David Zwirner gallery is highly prestigious. It features work by talented, contemporary artists, with several featured exhibitions throughout the year.
It was time to refresh and update the exterior of the building. Firstly, to ensure its outside matched Mayfair’s premium style. Equally, for the gallery to be at its best when welcoming visitors.
The David Zwirner gallery needed full exterior painting and decorating work for the front and rear façades. Also, the interior stairwell and other spaces were due for a smart refresh.
A Satisfied Returning Client
- We’re already trusted working partners in commercial exterior painting
- The team has established experience in quality work in heritage environments
- The client knew we would keep our deadline promises
What Did We Do?
The work was wide-ranging and included:
- Painting and decorating of the full front and back outside façades
- Complete restoration of ironworks and other metal features
- Cleaning and patination of lead details
- Full internal staircase decoration
- Minor touch-ups and repairs throughout the building
Working with up to nine team members plus a dedicated site manager, the project was completed in four weeks and met its strict deadline with no compromises on delivery standards.

What Materials Did We Use?
As experts in commercial painting and decorating, Ignas London only uses premium materials; this way, we ensure a high-quality end result that’s as long-lasting as possible.
- The team used Dulux Trade Weathershield externally. The project architect specified this paint due to its resistance to the ever-present British weather.
- Professional-grade Toupret products for structural and surface repairs. This product has been enhanced with resins and fibres and ticks all the boxes regarding strength and flexibility.
- We filled the interior cracks along the stair-to-wall joins with flexible compounds to prevent future cracking.
Next, the staircase area: We were pleased to use Dulux Diamond Matt – another excellent choice: strong, washable and with a nonglossy finish, it’s ideal for high-traffic areas. A mix of elegance and durability made it the perfect solution.
What Colours Did We Use?
Chic, stylish British Standard White – a timeless shade that matched the building’s character.
Jasmine White for the exterior: crisp, fresh and beautifully blended to Mayfair’s upmarket setting.
How Did We Work?
Preparation, as always, for commercial exterior painting and decorating in London, was paramount.
We took the time to protect all work areas, then cleaned all the surfaces. In this way, we could open any cracks and treat them, making sure we had a super-smooth surface.
Before starting to paint, the team applied stabilisers where needed. A stabiliser is a specialised solution that binds chalky surfaces to create a smooth, stable base. This means paints and other coatings will adhere extremely well to the surface.
Toupret fillers were used for patching and repair work. Then, with Dulux Trade systems, Ignas repainted the façade and window areas.
Fine, elegant and one of the gallery’s high-profile features, the staircase is very visible. And, continuously in use. It required love, care and attention, which Ignas was happy to supply.
Timing – And Communication – Are Everything
Due to careful preparation and meticulous planning, Ignas London completed this wonderful project to its sharp deadline.
Equally, we communicated proactively with our client, keeping them up to speed with key stages and progress.

The Result
The David Zwirner Gallery was delighted with the results.
They praised our work ethic, punctuality, hard work and of course, the skills of the workforce. Also, our cohesive teamwork – something we’re extremely proud of.
See for yourselves.
The exterior looks immaculate.
It’s clean, sharp and nothing short of immaculate. Plus, look closely at the staircase: it’s been refreshed without losing its period style, enhancing its form and function.
After this project, the gallery invited us to complete additional painting and decorating projects, including work around high-value art collections. Ignas London’s values of precision planning, craftsmanship and careful judgement made us, once again, the David Zwirner Gallery’s first choice.
Let’s Hear from Our Client:
“We have found Ignas completely professional.
As an art gallery, any outside contractors working for us must be responsible, respectful and conscientious.
We have clients in the building who need to be kept safe and secure at all times. Equally, with a business to focus on, the upkeep of the gallery is vital.
Often, we have specific requests from artists for specific paint renderings to the wall, and patience and understanding is required to meet these requests.
Ignas are unfailingly polite regarding our needs and schedule. I cannot recommend this company highly enough for people’s domestic and commercial needs. They have taken care of all our decorating needs and are a pleasure to work with.”
