Outside Painting in London

Back To the Future: A Stylish, Clean and Graceful Home Once Again

Proof, if proof were even needed, that outside painting in London should really be left to the experts.

Hampstead is surely one of the most affluent and sought-after areas in London. Full of charm, elegance and sophistication, it’s known for its elegant homes, chic sophistication and artistic reputation.

However, perfection doesn’t just happen.

With neighbourly high standards and expectations, these properties are at the mercy of the British weather and general wear and tear. Nothing, not least bricks and mortar, can be ignored for long. Regular maintenance is essential, and it’s not just how a building looks, but also the care and skills needed to keep it free from more challenging problems.

Like algae, for example. Or general degradation.

Here, our client was Fraher and Findlay, an architectural practice with whom Ignas London has already collaborated on several significant projects for both for interiors and exteriors.

The Challenge

This stunning home had lost its immaculate appearance. It needed, to coin a phrase, some TLC.

On the façade, there were issues with cracks, green algae growth and peeling paint over several areas. The relatively new windows were already showing signs of wear and tear, with small cracks and flaking paint. Left alone, these problems would only loom larger, get worse and cause substantial issues.

Clearly, the property needed expert care.

Could Ignas London step in to bring this property back to life? Of course we could.

Challenging projects for outside painting in London are our speciality.

Why Our Client Chose Us

Fraher and Findlay chose Ignas London due to previous, highly successful joint projects. They know how we work. They remembered our attention to detail for exterior work, experience in heritage properties and the technical skills we bring to each and every home.

And, we were delighted to work with them again, too.

In our experience, collaborative partnerships are exceptionally powerful.

Each business recognises the other’s skills and experience, and the relationship works in harmony for wonderful results.

Fraher and Findlay knew that we never cut corners; something completely verboten in this specialist type of work.

With outside painting in London – and everywhere, of course – preparation is everything. Poorly prepared surfaces, missed stages or low-quality materials are a disaster in the making. The result may look amazing to start with, but the cracks, quite literally, will soon begin to show.

What Did We Need To Do?

In effect, our role was to ensure that through working together, the family
home would be the best it could possibly be.

This project was all about cleaning, preparation, removing the old and replacing it with the new. With, of course, a focus on quality.

As well as attacking the dreaded algae, Ignas was tasked with repairs, repainting the façade, and substituting window frames. Equally, working on the metal elements, installing sealants around windows and doors and making everything spick and span.

A team of seven, with specialist areas of expertise, were engaged to work on the project from start to finish.

How We Worked

Preparation: The team carefully protected windows, doors, cornices and
other precious non-paintable elements.

Having erected scaffolding, and following a thorough inspection, they removed old, cracked silicone around the windows and doors.

Cleaning: Algae was removed, and an in-depth cleaning process was applied to the front of the property, as well as windows and stone details.

Repairs and Filling: The team cut all the cracks, removed peeling paint, reinforced damaged render with mesh and stabilised the surface. Then, they filled in the cracks with Keim mineral fillers, sanded the surface and prepared it for painting.

Painting: After using Keim mineral paints on the façade, we painted thewindows with specially sourced paint. Also, we painted the metal parts, including gates, balustrades, downpipes and so on.

No streaks, no brush marks. Just a thoroughly professional job.

A Flawless Finish: Ignas cleaned the windows, applying new silicone.

Once again, the project was completed ahead of its five-week schedule. (Finishing before time with NO quality compromise is one of Ignas London’s specialities)

The Results: Perfection in Outside Painting in London

Style, grace and elegance are at home again.

The home has regained its substantial classic outlook so beloved of older properties. Everything looks as fresh as the day the house was built, with a consistent style within the neighbourhood.

This Hampstead retreat now has a breathable, durable coating that will protect its façade for years to come. The windows have been perfectly restored; not only are they properly sealed against the weather, they look even better than before.

All metal elements have corrosion protection.

This property now faces the future (and the wind and rain) with confidence.

What Did Our Client Think?

“The Ignas team are perfectionists.

They work to the highest standards and it’s always a pleasure doing business with them. They completed a large external decoration package for us on Frognal Way, and despite challenging conditions and a few tricky issues, they always came up with the solutions needed.

We will continue to work with Ignas and would not hesitate to recommend them.”
