While working on another exterior project in Kensington, our team at IGNAS was approached by a passerby – someone who had recently purchased a townhouse just a few streets away. More Than Just a “Fresh Coat”
From the very first meeting, it was clear that this wasn’t about simply freshening up the façade. The client was looking for a long-term solution – a comprehensive exterior restoration that would respect the classical character of the building while delivering high-end durability and precision. We proposed a detailed action plan based on years of experience and top-quality materials to ensure results that were both beautiful and built to last.
Step by Step – A Restoration with Style
The project began with a full inspection of the exterior. The façade was in poor condition – cracked, with peeling paint and patchy repairs that needed complete replacement. Rather than just paint over the problems, we chose to restore the building properly.
Our process included:
- Applying a full layer of reinforcing mesh over the façade
- Using Toupret Skimcoat with fibres – a highly durable, crack-resistant material
- Priming the surface with Toupret Stabiliser
- Restoring all architectural details (cornices, frames, mouldings) using Toupret Murex
- Renovating all metal elements, including balcony railings and front fencing – stripped, treated with anti-corrosion primer, and repainted
- Refurbishing all wooden windows – front and back – using the Repair Care system, including new timber inserts where needed
Subtle Elegance Through Pastel Finishes
We used high-quality satin eggshell paints in soft pastel shades on the restored woodwork and windows. This finish provided a refined, understated elegance – perfectly in tune with both the building’s classical architecture and the Kensington surroundings.
Interior Quality – A Story for Another Time
The interior of the property was also fully redecorated by our team – including protective floor covering, precision sanding, priming, and painting with Little Greene paints. Those works will be covered in a separate case study – here we focus solely on exterior decorating.
