Exterior Decorating in Belgravia – Restoring the Grandeur of a Historic Building

Restoration with Respect for History

In one of London’s most prestigious districts – elegant Belgravia – IGNAS had the pleasure of working on the comprehensive renovation of a remarkable Grade II listed building. The project was part of a larger refurbishment led by Justo, covering both the interior and exterior of the property. In this case study, we focus on the exterior decorating aspect – a challenging, detail-oriented, and heritage-respecting task.

High Standards as the Starting Point

From our first conversation with the client, it was clear this wouldn’t be a typical façade refresh. The goal was to restore the building’s former glory while fully preserving its historical character. The client expected flawless execution in both technical and aesthetic terms.

Our work had to ensure not only durability and protection but also elegance and visual finesse worthy of Belgravia’s surroundings.

Team and Organisation

At the peak of the project, up to 10 professionals were on site – a well-coordinated team of experienced painters and decorators, supported by a project manager. The manager continuously oversaw progress and conducted daily quality control checks – both technically and visually – to ensure the outcome met and exceeded expectations.

Original Windows – Restored with Care

One of the key tasks was restoring the building’s original windows – a job requiring great precision. Our team removed old paint layers, carried out necessary repairs using high-quality resins, and hand-painted the frames – following the designer’s guidance and preserving their historic character. No external joiners were involved – all work was done in-house by our decorators.

The result? Windows that look almost new while retaining the soul of the building.

Façade – Elegance and Durability

The external walls were carefully prepared and reinforced. After cleaning the surfaces, we applied reinforcing mesh and adhesive layers, followed by specialist exterior plasters enriched with fibres and resins. Once sanded, the surface was painted using high-quality Farrow & Ball paints.

The outcome: not only a visually striking façade but also long-lasting protection against the elements.

Final Result – Style and Respect for Heritage

Thanks to efficient organisation, the team’s experience, and attention to detail, the project was completed on schedule. The façade regained its elegance, and the windows shone anew – all without compromising the authenticity of the building.

The client was extremely pleased with the quality of the work, our team’s professionalism, and the high standard of communication. To us, this project proves that exterior decorating is more than a craft – it’s an art of working with architecture and history.

“This was a high-end project, and IGNAS Ltd. completed the work ahead of schedule, maintaining the highest level of quality throughout. I am fully satisfied with the results.”
