For property owners planning exterior decorating in London, colour selection is no longer only a matter of personal taste. It has become a strategic decision that reflects urban trends, environmental conditions and the architectural heritage of the city.
Night projects are a different world. They require not only precise planning, but also a team that can work fast, quietly, and efficiently.
As a Project Manager and Coordinator at IGNAS Limited, it’s my responsibility to organise and execute these types of assignments.
One of our most recent commercial projects was for Enigma in Holborn – an intense, artistic transformation completed entirely during the night.
Planning With No Room for Error
For Enigma, the client was aiming for a spectacular effect in their entrance and reception area – without interrupting the normal daytime operations of this vibrant entertainment venue.
That meant one thing: night-only work.
My job was to:
- Assemble the right team – five trusted decorators
- Create a detailed schedule across five consecutive nights
- Coordinate all materials, deliveries, and protection
- Supervise quality control, cleanliness, and compliance with health & safety
There’s no room for improvisation in such projects. Every hour must be used to its full potential.
Lime Wash With Soul – Technique and Precision
The client selected a lime wash system (also known as color wash) to bring depth and texture to the walls.
The chosen palette of deep reds and purples was meant to create an artistic, warm and bold atmosphere.
Before each layer of lime wash, we had to:
- Carefully clean and prime the surfaces
- Fill all imperfections
- Apply a specialist base coat suitable for mineral paints
- Hand-apply each lime wash layer with patience and skill
This is a meticulous process—especially when the entire space must look spotless by morning.
An Effect That Stays in Memory
After five nights of work, the space was transformed.
What was once a neutral interior became a memorable, characterful reception area that set the tone the moment you stepped inside.
The client was not only impressed with the final look, but also with how smoothly and discreetly we carried out the work.

What Makes a Night Project Successful?
From my experience coordinating projects at IGNAS, I can say with confidence that successful night-time projects rely on:
- A detailed nightly plan – every move counts
- A team that understands the rhythm of OOH work
- Cleanliness, safety, and respect for the client’s space
- Clear communication – including with security, staff and the building manager
These elements are what separate skilled tradespeople from true professional painters and decorators.
More Work in Holborn
A while ago, we also had the opportunity to complete another project in the Holborn area – painting the reception at 90 High Holborn, also using lime wash paints.
This job was also carried out entirely outside of working hours (OOH), over the weekend, to avoid disrupting the building’s daily operations.
